The definition of a movement is the act of people working together from one position to another. The Responsible Fashion Movement is that action. Like minded individuals, in Sri Lanka and globally in the fashion and design industry, have come together to bring about a change in consciousness and awareness in the industry. It’s a move towards a New Normal. It’s time to move to create a new future.

Responsibility, Responsiveness and Accountability are the desired action points.

The Responsible Fashion Movement has a global agenda to shift this thinking, where mindsets are changed, practices implemented, and fashion consumers made aware of their choices.

The Movement

Food, Clothing and Shelter, which remains the paramount human necessity, evolves with the socio—economic development and need to stay relevant to the environmental needs. Over the years Food and Shelter has taken the lead towards being Responsible and Sustainable, but Fashion has been slow to move in that direction. In the last decade it was first the societal impact that were discussed now it’s the environmental issues that are being addressed. While food and shelter is fast becoming good, fashion needs to increase momentum as the clothes can’t remain unclean, which the majority are, at the moment.

The dynamics of the fashion industry is split in two, creative IPs are concentrated in the western hemisphere and the manufacturing is concentrated in the eastern hemisphere. Hence the responsibility towards sustainability is divided. This movement integrates the 08 impacts from Design to Disposal in a collaborative format. There is rich knowledge available that can drive the impacts. Hence Knowledge – To – Action remains a key focus.

Our 8 Impacts
