Go Beyond
The MAS Women Go Beyond (WGB) initiative is a globally recognized women’s empowerment programme, started in 2003. The original objective of making a tangible difference in the lives of female employees at MAS, by empowering them both in the workplace and in their personal lives, through focused initiatives, such as, career advancement , work-life balance initiatives, skill development and rewarding excellence. In 2012 the WGB programme re-aligned its focus, primarily resulting from MAS becoming a signatory to the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP’s) – jointly developed by UN Women and UN Global Compact.
Now in its 15th year, the programme has resulted in a more empowered workforce with a sense of mutual purpose, greater engagement and operational effectiveness. In 2011, the UNGC and Unifem used the Women Go Beyond program as a case study when developing the Women’s Empowerment Principles. The Women Go Beyond programme creates a better quality of life for employees, their families and is the benchmark for best practices within the apparel industry. The programme continues to make a difference in both the professional and personal lives of MAS employees by fostering pride in their job and a keen appreciation of their role not only within the company, but within their community and the country.
